A Student Friendly Christmas Dinner!

This year we had our second Christmas day in my uni house. I thought I’d share some tips to keep it easy and simple on a student budget, whilst also tasting great!

Same as last year we had chicken for our meat. I actually prefer it to turkey as it is less dry and is so much easier to cook. In Aldi they sell whole chicken in bags, we got the one with stuffing. They are so easy to cook as you leave them in the bag to cook which holds in all the flavour and juices and makes it taste amazing!

We also purchased the most of our veg from Aldi as well as Christmas crackers! They had a selection but we opted for the cheapest which was a box of 12 for only £3.

We also headed to Iceland for some frozen bits as they are easier to make and still very cheap! We got our pigs in blankets, cauliflower and broccoli cheese, and brussel sprouts with bacon from here.

All in all our dinner took around 2 hours to make, what with all the different parts to prepare. Would definitely recommend writing out a plan to follow with timings of when to cook each element.

For desert we made Tanya Burr’s Chocolate Orange Cheesecake. Not only did it taste amazing last year when we made it, it is very festive as well as being so easy to make. Being students we don’t have all the right baking equipment, however this being a no-bake recipe means you can make it by rough estimate and it will still taste great!
